Mission
The mission of the NEXUS is to promote and facilitate collaborative interdisciplinary research and education in data science, to train the next generation of data scientists, and to inspire these new data scientists to employ their talent and aspirations to solving our world’s problems. By developing programs/curricula at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and creating new knowledge through interdisciplinary research, the institute will train data scientists at various levels of expertise that will support both local and global industries in transforming data into useful knowledge for optimal decision-making.
Objectives
The objectives of the NEXUS are:
- To promote the collaboration of data scientists with researchers from other disciplines and with professionals from industry, community, government and non-academic sectors to solve real-world, applied problems for the benefit of society;
- To advance the knowledge in the field of data science through interdisciplinary collaborative research and the development of novel concepts and analytical tools;
- To serve as training ground for those needing all levels of training in data science; outside the University from many fields as well as those inside the University from many disciplines, including highly skilled data scientists at the undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral levels.
