Dr. Lin-P’ing Choo-Smith
Dr. Lin-P’ing Choo-Smith began her research career as an undergraduate summer student at U. Toronto and at the National Research Council Canada (NRC, Ottawa). She later obtained her BSc degree in Biochemistry (specialist) and Chemistry (major) from the University of Toronto and a PhD degree in Biochemistry from the University of Manitoba. She has held post-doctoral fellow positions at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, USA) and Erasmus University Rotterdam (The Netherlands). She was a Research Officer at the NRC’s Institute for Biodiagnostics/Medical Devices Portfolio (Winnipeg) for 13 years and joined the Composites Innovation Centre (CIC) in 2014 as a Senior Biomaterials Researcher. In 2016, Lin-P’ing took on the position of Vice President of Production Innovation and FibreCITY at CIC. In 2018, the position was renamed to VP Biomaterials Program. The CIC focuses on supporting and stimulating economic growth through innovative research, development and application of composite materials and technologies. Lin-P’ing oversees the biomaterials program related to developing biocomposite materials involving sustainable, renewable agricultural natural fibres such as hemp and flax fibres, and establishing the biomass supply chain from farm to high value industrial products.
