International Students

At the Faculty of Science, we support a climate of respect where all people are valued and where individuals from all communities, ages and cultures are welcome. Our International Student Advisors offer one-on-one advising sessions to help you with course selection, planning your degree and accessing other University of Manitoba services and resources. To arrange an appointment, please contact a Science Academic Advisor.

Welcome Mentors
The Welcome Mentors program pairs new international students with experienced  U of M students (international and domestic). Mentors complete training to support mentees during their transition to the University of Manitoba. Mentors provide intercultural, personal, and academic support to their mentees via one-on-one interactions and conversations. Welcome Mentors will be required to meet and communicate with their mentees for an entire academic term (September to December or January to April).

Check out this page and contact the IC to learn more about volunteering as a Welcome Mentor for a new international student or else to apply to be a mentee!

Workshops and Information Sessions
Sessions are planned throughout the year on different subjects for international students.

The IC website can also help you with:

  • visas, work/study permits
  • resources on or off campus – (including where to shop and bank etc.)

They also have helpful links to the following UM services:
