Research and Teaching Interests

Alex Leblanc joined the Dept. of Statistics in July 2003. Before coming to Winnipeg, he did all of his studies at the Université de Montréal, in the Département de Mathématiques et de Statistique, where he obtained his Ph.D. in Statistics in the fall of 2002. He worked under the supervision of J.-F. Angers, which makes him an academic grandson of James O. Berger. His thesis focused on the use of wavelets in Bayesian calculation and empirical Bayes estimation.

Alex was an untenured Assistant Professor from July 2003 to March 2010. He was promoted to Associate Professor on March 30, 2010 and tenured on July 1 of the same year.

Research interests generally include: nonparametric function estimation, statistical depth, semi-parametric methods in regression, sparse multinomial data and contingency tables, asymptotics, Bayesian methods, computational statistics, robustness, complex analytics, copulas.
